Manhattan, four years in the future: a facially-scarred Peter Petrelli lives in a world where heroes have become the hunted. Escaping an assassination attempt by Claire, Peter teleports back into the past to change the future – by shooting his brother, Nathan; however, after swapping places with his earlier self and seeing Nathan die in E.R., Future Peter is astonished to see his brother suddenly come back to life… Bored of his new job as head of Yamagato Industries, Hiro receives a DVD recording of his late father entrusting him with a great secret for the fate of the world – which Hiro promptly loses to a pretty speedster thief… Having taken Molly to a safe place, Mohinder receives a flash of inspiration from Maya that finally enables him to complete his father’s work… Matt confronts Future Peter over the shooting, only to be teleported away to the middle of a desert… Sylar breaks into the Bennet house and steals Noah’s secret files – he then cuts open Claire’s head and steals her powers… Now believing that God has given him a message of hope for the world, Nathan receives a visit from the late Mr Linderman… Hiro jumps into the future, only to see his future self cut down by a super-powered Ando, just before Tokyo explodes… Senator Malden and his advisor make plans for Nathan’s future… Mohinder makes an important decision concerning his new serum… Peter finds himself in an unorthodox prison in the depths of the Company’s Facility…
