The Doctor

The Doctor attempts to resuscitate River’s prone figure – and then discovers that she is merely holding her breath. After explaining that she was being chased by angry Sontarans, the playful River notices the dress hanging in the Console Room – and immediately suspects the Doctor of cheating on her. Stepping in and out of the Console Room, the two versions of River keep missing each other – and then a third River enters the ship! This River wears the dress the Doctor gave her, and so she is puzzled to see another such dress in the TARDIS; as she too accuses the Doctor of harbouring another woman, the Time Lord hastily sends her back outside on the pretence of checking the light on top of the ship. After the Doctor uses the second River’s Vortex Manipulator to teleport her back to her cell in the Stormcage, the third River re-enters the ship, this time accompanied by a second Doctor. Learning that they are off to see the Storm Clouds at Durilliam, the Doctor realises that his other self is seeing River for their final date; saddened by this revelation, he bids goodbye to himself and River, watching them depart just as ‘his’ River returns to the Console Room. When she asks what has been going on, River receives a reply of “Spoilers”, prompting her to fatefully comment that the Doctor’s secrets will be the death of her…
