It’s been a tough week of non-stop missions for International Rescue, and it isn’t letting up. The Tracy boys receive a call for help from the Article Circle, where the Aurora Generator that safely discharges the excess electricity from the Northern Lights has malfunctioned – unless it can be repaired, a massive blast of energy will be unleashed. Scott sets off in Thunderbird 1, accompanied by Virgil and Brains’ robot, Max, in Thunderbird 2 with Pod 2. Approaching the generator, the aircraft experience magnetic interference from the overloading energy field, have to land behind a ridge several miles away. Virgil recommends they take the safe route to the base in Pod Explorers configured for Artic conditions, but Scott pushes them to take the direct, more dangerous route. However, Scott soon crashes his pod on the ice, and has to join Virgil inside his pod, with Max holding onto the exterior of the craft. Travelling via the safer route, they are caught up in an ice mist; Max goes ahead to lead the way, only to have the ground give way underneath him. Virgil manages to rescue Max, and together they reach the Aurora Generator. The lead engineer is still there, desperately attempting to ground the machine before it can send out a massive electrical pulse that will cause a catastrophic geomagnetic reversal of the Earth’s Poles. With the energy build-up reaching unbearable levels, Scott, Virgil and the engineer are forced to evacuate. As the seconds tick down to disaster, it’s all down to Max now…
